Pod Casts
Pam Mulready’s “destruction of choice” started her freshman year and continued throughout college. While her friends were graduating, she was in rehab. This was not how she thought her life was supposed to go, but it put her on a path to recovery and to helping teens and young adults going through the same experiences. Today, Pam is a licensed mental health and addiction recovery counselor, working as a Project Coordinator at Youth Recovery CT and as a SMART Recovery Facilitator.
Smart Recovery videos
SMART Recovery Videos offer practical, skills-based tools to support recovery and positive change. These videos are grounded in evidence-informed strategies and focus on building coping skills you can use in real life—such as managing urges and cravings, handling difficult emotions, improving communication, strengthening motivation, and working through setbacks without shame. Many SMART Recovery videos also teach “how-to” techniques (like challenging unhelpful thoughts and problem-solving) and encourage building a balanced, healthy lifestyle that supports long-term recovery.
Mind Remake Project
Mind Remake Project is a free therapy and self-help resource library created by Cassie Jewell. It’s built on the idea that the brain can “remake” itself—meaning people can change, grow, and heal with the right support, education, and tools. The site offers practical, evidence-informed resources for both individuals and helpers, including psychoeducation articles, worksheets/handouts, coping tools, and recovery-focused materials. It’s especially helpful for people looking for clear, skill-based guidance for mental health, emotional healing, and addiction recovery.
Recovery Tool Belt
The Recovery Tool Belt: Discover Essential Strategies for Achieving and Sustaining Sobriety is a practical, step-by-step recovery guide that organizes “tools you can actually use” across the full recovery process—from early stabilization and treatment to long-term maintenance. It’s written to be helpful for people in recovery and for loved ones/supporters, covering topics like relapse prevention, coping skills, mindset shifts, therapy supports, and building a sustainable life beyond addiction. purchase on Amazon
Everything we think we know
“Everything You Think You Know About Addiction is Wrong” is a well-known talk by Johann Hari and a central theme in his book Chasing the Scream. The message challenges the idea that addiction is simply a “chemical hook” or a moral failure. Instead, it frames addiction as an understandable response to pain, trauma, and disconnection—and argues that healing often requires more than willpower or abstinence. A key takeaway is that connection and belonging (healthy relationships, purpose, community, and support) are essential parts of recovery. The talk also highlights public-health approaches—like Portugal—that focus on treatment and reintegration rather than punishment, emphasizing empathy, support, and rebuilding a meaningful life.
Stages of Change
Stages of Change (also called the Transtheoretical Model) is a simple, evidence-based way to understand how people make lasting changes—especially in recovery and mental health. Change usually doesn’t happen in one big moment; it happens in steps. The stages include Precontemplation (not ready yet), Contemplation (thinking about change), Preparation (getting ready), Action (actively making changes), and Maintenance (protecting progress and preventing relapse). Some people may also experience relapse, which is viewed as part of the learning process—not a reason to give up. Understanding the Stages of Change helps clients and families reduce shame, set realistic goals, and choose the right supports for where someone is right now.
